Ocean Avenue Collection

Tuesday 4 June 2013

I was recently contacted by someone from Warby Parker asking if i wanted to do a piece on the upcoming launch of their limited edition Ocean Avenue Collection of eyeglasses and sunglasses. Of course i jumped at the chance! Warby Parker is a transformative fashion brand offering designer eye-wear at a revolutionary price.

This collection has some fabulous pieces of 8 optical frames and 14 sunglasses in some lovely hues, such as Ginger Lemonade, Driftwood and Sugar Maple. They have such an inviting feel about them, and their shape and colour can only be described as timeless.
The source of inspiration for this collection was inspired by the cult film 'The Warriors'. Chrissie Miller teamed up with director Cass Bird and stylist Turner to stage a Warby Parker beachside tussle in the form of a dance off to be situated at none other than the beautiful Coney Island.

Personally, i think the video is great and showcases the variety of eyeglasses and sunglasses really well.    The frames are unisex which is portrayed really well in this video. The theme to this video is fabulous too and shows just how great these are for the Summer. Neil Blumenthal, co-founder and co-CEO had this to say on the collection - "The collection and the film celebrate the fun and mischief of summer in New York, and nothing is more classic summer in the city than escaping to the Coney Island boardwalk and eating Nathan’s with your friends"

SUNGLASSES

I'm such a sucker for sunglasses, i absolutely love them! They are perfect for hot Summer days lounging on the beach, and are also a great accessory for the Winter months too if your trying to come across as a bit mysterious. I think you've got to be picky when it comes to sunglasses, you need to make sure the frame suits your face shape, and the colour suits your complexion. Who thought it'd be so complicated when it comes to buying a pair?

These are my two favourite pairs out of the collection the Sayles in Sugar Maple and the Jasper in Newsprint Grey. The frames have a very similar look to them but the Jasper frame is a bit more rounder with a more prominent bridge, both are the type i would be drawn to when buying a pair. I really love the colour of the Sugar Maple on the Sayles pair, it's different to the usual black frame i'd opt for. The Jasper pair have a major 70's feel to them and i think that's why i was attracted to them, the quirkiness is just so appealing to me!

Just like with sunglasses, when it comes to buying an optical frame, face shape and complexion is something you must take into account. You don't want the pair to be too overpowering on the face making the drawing point of peoples attention the glasses. You've also got to make sure you're comfortable in the pair you purchase considering your the one who has got to be wearing them, so make sure you invest wisely.

Roosevelt in Chocolate Soda

I think if i was to have to buy a new pair of optical frames, Roosevelt in Chocolate Soda would definitely be the beauties i'd choose. The Chocolate Soda colour is so nice and is easy on the eyes too and would be complimentary to most skin tones. I'd usually pick black frames, especially in this case, but i thought these were so much more interesting in colour. The shape of the glasses is really nice too, the bridge isn't too prominent and the lenses are a nice smooth shape.

This collection is really attractive and with wearing a pair of these statement pieces you are sure to have people complimenting you on them! The collection goes live today and will be available along with other eyeglasses and sunglasses from Warby Parker.
