My New Years Resolutions

Tuesday, 30 December 2014

So, it's that time of year again. Where everyone starts saying 'New Year, New Me'. Well i think i'm going to be a bit more original and not so cliché this year, because what's the point in saying you're going to be a new person next year, if you have no ideas or goals set in place, right!?

Here are a few ideas/resolutions that i really am hoping to put in place into the New Year. Let me start off with some pretty simple ones, that the majority of people will be saying their going to try and implement.

  • to stop smoking.
  • to go to the gym 3-4 times a week.
  • to lose some weight.

They're pretty ordinary aren't they? Most people will want to stop smoking, and i, personally love any big occasion to use it as a mark to change something in my life. I started smoking properly only at the beginning of the year, and that was mostly because when i was in the eating disorder unit it was the only way to actually go outside and get some 'fresh' air. I've had a gym membership for a while, kindly paid for by my mother as a bid to get me out the house doing something a little more productive, so i really hope to be able to do at least 3 days a week in the New Year at the gym, because it's pointless having a membership otherwise. Thing is, i love exercising, it's just overcoming the anxiety of going, and building up the motivation to go again. Losing weight, a very typical New Years Resolution by the majority after the big Christmas feasts! I don't want to go to the extreme of getting ill again, but i do want to lose some.

So, that's the boring ones out the way, here are some more well thought out and productive Resolutions personalised for myself.

  • to try and blog 3-4 times a week. Fashion, Lifestyle, OOTD, and another.
  • to completely change my bedroom, get it looking pretty and having it the way i want it.
  • to try and go to work at my voluntary job more.
  • to only buy clothes once a month.

So a typical blogging New Years Resolution, "to blog more". Well, this year i have completely neglected my blog i think. There have been so many big and horrible problems that have happened this year that have stopped me focusing on my blog as much as i'd of liked to. I want to try and have a bit more organisation with my blog too, but trying to do a fashion, lifestyle, OOTD and 1 other blog post a week. Giving it some routine i think will be quite good for it. Right, so changing my bedroom being another one, i don't need it decorated, but i do need a few bits and bobs doing to it, firstly fixing the hole in my ceiling preferably! I really need to go to my volunteer job more, i feel like a bit of a let down, but that is by no fault of my own as i have no control over my health. Lastly, to only buy clothes once a month. This is probably going to be my toughest resolution to stick to as i am a true shopaholic! I spend way too much money on clothes, so i think limiting myself to buying clothes once a month is a great stepping stone to cutting down!

Right, so that's it! I'd love to hear what resolutions you have in mind for the upcoming year! I'm really going to try and stick to these as best as i can, it's going to be hard but it'll all be worth it in the end.
I'll be out celebrating New Years Eve tomorrow evening with my friends at a local club that we always go to, so i'm wishing you all a Happy New Year filled with happiness!

Where i've been hiding

Wednesday, 3 December 2014

Right so before i get started, i'm going to warn you that this is going to be a lengthy post. It's about why i haven't been blogging as consistently as i usually would, and why i've taken some time out from the blogging world. This post mainly features on my struggle with mental health and how its effected me a great deal in the last couple of months.

So, let me begin by saying since around September/October time, things started going a bit downhill for me. Relationships were strained and i was just struggling a lot in the sense of not feeling good enough, and feeling unwanted. As always, i would lay on everything i was feeling to my health professionals, but i just didn't feel as if i was being listened to. They were continuously telling me how well i was doing with my eating, even though it was and still is a day to day struggle to eat and to not throw up. But anyways, from their point of view, they saw a Courtney who was achieving more and wanting more out of life. In September i joined a ladies football team, and i also started volunteering at my local Charity Shop. So in that sense, the sense of actually having a life, things had looked up. Some of the friends i have made at football are just irreplaceable and i was enjoying volunteering.

In around, what i think was the beginning of October, i had a meeting with my Psychiatrist, who is actually my eating disorder consultant but is overseeing everything that's going on with my mental health atm. He said, that considering i have been on a specific anti-psychotic (used mostly for my severe anxiety and depression!) for quite a while, and it can have some nasty side effects the longer you're on it that it's about time they tried me on something else. Well, let's just say that that was the beginning of something that was going to give me the 6-8 weeks of hell!

So, i started reducing my tablets lowering the dose as told and then eventually two weeks after seeing him, i started taking the new drug. The coming off the other drug wasn't too bad, my anxiety flared up quite badly, and i was hoping that the new drug would put a stop to that, when infact it did quite the opposite. So the new drug, didn't just flare up my anxiety to a whole other level, it sent me into a state of what can only be described as hell from my point of view. The new drug gave me all the symptoms that they are supposed to help. So my anxiety was sky high, my depression was at an all time low, and my mania was all over the place. I was going from 1 to 100 in a matter of seconds. MY friends experienced this with me in the pub on a few occasions. Something so immaterial would be said or happen and that would kill my mood, and then suddenly i'd be so hyper that i would be shaking, and then i'd go back down again. Also, there was a separate occasion where i was on the phone to my mum, and i was just walking around in a circle saying to her "Mum, i',m walking around in a circle and i can't stop." I probably did that for about 10 minutes before my mind and body would allow me to just be in a 'normal' state again.  The depression wasn't just a little down moment. I was contemplating killing myself every minute, i even planned out many times how i was going to do it, that's how bad it got. A lot of the time, i would just harm myself in one way or another, but luckily i didn't try anything really serious.

2 weeks into this medication, my mum found me in my room distraught, banging my head against a wall, shaking, hysterically crying, razor in hand. She sat me on the bed and tried to console me, but this drug just wouldn't let me rationalise what i was doing. Something i had worked out though, was that that drug was going to kill me. There's no overreacting about that either, i can safely say, hand on heart, that if i had carried on taking that drug, i wouldn't be here anymore. Luckily, i had realised just in time. My mum agreed with me and from that night i stopped taking it. That didn't stop the anxiety and the depression though. For about a week i wasn't on any medication to sort out my anxiety and depression. I would check my tablets for about 5 minutes to make sure mum hadn't slipped it in there, i couldn't walk to the shops of my own, i wasn't getting dressed or really washing throughout all of this. I was still pushing my self to play football, but it was so hard to carry on. I felt totally useless, on and off that drug. Like i had nothing to live for, even though i know i truly do.

I went back and saw my psychiatrist about a week after i came off the tablet, and you know what he did!? He put me back on my old medication!! I was so infuriated because i knew all of it could of been avoided if the medication had just been left how it was. I'm even on a higher dose now then i was before they changed the tablet! Ridiculous really.

Now though, i'm in a better place. My medication is all back to normal, and things finally seem to be looking up. It's Christmas soon, and my 21st! Considering last Christmas i was so ill with my anorexia i barely moved i want to make this one a Christmas to remember! I have some great stuff planned for my birthday too, i've practically made it my birthday month! On Saturday we're going on a pub crawl on the Circle Line in London which should be interesting.

So, this is it really. This is why i had to take a break from blogging and the blogging community. It may not sound that bad written down, and i can't actually find the words to describe just how horrendous that experience was, but i hope this gives you into an insight into what Mental Health can be like.

Top: Select
Skirt: Boohoo
Shoes & Ring: River Island
Rings: Topshop

Once again, i'm apologising for being a bad blogger. I'm nearly certain someone has stolen my blogging mojo! Hopefully they'll return it sooner rather than later. On a positive note, Wednesday was the 4th birthday of COURTZMELV! I wanted to do a post then, but i've been really unwell with a bad cold and a chest infection! For anyone who is new to my blog, i created my blog on the day that my Grandma passed away. She was my inspiration for writing, and i really wanted to do well, and i still try and do as best as i can with my blog to honour her. Whenever i write a blog post i always think of her and whether she would like it or not.

I saw this top while shopping and i just had to buy it! I really like the way the sleeves are, with the cut out bit around the shoulders, but what i was drawn to mostly was the writing across the front. 'Imperfect', a word most people hate, yet it's what we all are. No one is perfect by any shape or form no matter how hard you strive for it. I will be writing a lifestyle post inspired by this top in the not to distant future to do with myself wanting perfection. But back to the outfit. I thought this would look nice with a lightly coloured skirt, and instead of going for my usual tube skirt, i ventured out for a pleated pastel blue skirt, which i think works really well with the top. Jewellery wise, i'm wearing a selection of rings and my usual Pandora bracelet which never leaves my wrist. I've got my trusty brogues on, and due to this weather tights are a must! (Not that i stop wearing tights in the Summer though lol!)

Top: Primark
Skirt & Ring: H&M
Shoes: Charity Shop
Rings: River Island

I bought this top on a recent shopping spree, (i seem to be having shopping sprees every week. Note to self - STOP!) But anyways, i was really drawn to this top, the colours and patterns on it are just oh so eye-catching. The material is that scuba material that was all over the high street come the Summer, and apparently it's going to be around a bit throughout the Autumn. I thought wearing this top with a skirt of a different shade of purple would work quite nicely, so i've chosen my dark pink coloured one. What do you think of my choice? All my rings are brand new, unfortunately majority of the ones that i bought, even though i tried them on in the shop, seem to now be too big!? Weird right! I always seem to be wearing cute girly shoes as opposed to shoes which might give my outfit a bit of an edge, so i opted for these wedged plimsolls, which i bought from a Charity Shop a while ago, at a bargain price! I really do think they give a bit of oomph to my typical girly outfit, may have to start wearing them more often.

I'm going to start incorporating some more lifestyle posts into my blog. I think it needs a bit of a change, plus i have some quite interesting topics to talk about, especially about Mental Health illnesses. Anything you can think of that you'd be interested in me writing about, give me a shout!

Dress: Primark
Blazer: Charity Shop
Shoes: New Look
Rings: Select & New Look

Firstly, let me apologise for not really blogging this month, i can't believe it's already the 1st of October, and it's been about a month since i blogged! I just haven't been able to find my blogging mojo for some reason, so i apologise if this post is really dull.

I went on a bit of a shopping spree the other day and ended up spending more money then i initially planned to. (most of it was on rings!!) One of the first things i bought, was this cute little butterfly dress. Personally, i think its a perfect autumnal dress, due to its pale beige colouring, and spots of other pale colours. I was really attracted to it, and that's probably why it was my first purchase, plus the butterflies are really cute! I got this blazer from this shop that i'm volunteering at (i will get around to telling you more about that!) I love the length of it more than anything, it reminds me of a proper Dr Who coat! Its quite fitted which is nice as i don't really own any fitted blazers. I think it goes quite nicely with this dress, taking the look from quite casual to more sophisticated and smart. I've kept the accessories rather simple. just adding a couple of my newly purchased rings, i really like the angel wings ring!

x xx xxx xxxx xxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxxx Dress(*): Red Label
Bangle: River Island
Sunglasses: Topshop
Shoes: New Look

I was sent this dress by the lovelies at Red Label. Unfortunately it has taken me a while to post and review this dress due to a couple of complications with my health (don't worry i'm fine :)) So i do want to apologise to Red Label for the delay in this post being live.
Firstly, let me start off by saying that this dress is absolutely stunning, don't you think? It's a perfect evening dress and is something i'd be likely to purchase due to it's interesting detail and nude colour. I really am a fan of this detailing, it's a bit Victorian-esque and i've always been a lover of that, that's probably why i am so attracted to this dress. It fits like a dream, so they are definitely true to their size too. To make this work as a day dress, i added a few simple accessories, such as a bangle and a pair of sunglasses. This day was rather chilly too, so i wore a pair of black tights which i think also dresses the dress down to. I'm wearing a pair of 'dolly shoes', which i think are really cute with this outfit.

Dress(*): Just for 5 pounds
Shoes: Kin by John Lewis
Ring: New Look?

I was sent this dress by Just for 5 pounds to review. I'm not going to lie, when i first saw this dress i wasn't too keen on it due to it's black band round the middle. I've never thought navy and black went well together, it's always either/or in my opinion. After putting the dress on and looking at myself in the mirror, i decided i did actually like the dress and the black band gave it a bit of a quirky twist. It's a very cute dress, with it's frills down the outside of the bust. The dove print is adorable, and all in all this dress makes me feel very 'disney princess' if you know what i mean? I've worn black shoes to match the black band which i think compliments the look very well. I'm wearing bright red lipstick too as well as a gold leaf detailed ring.

Also, to the person who said i'm 'chunky' and have 'thick thighs', i don't know what you get out of making someone feel horrible about themselves. Yes, i know i've put on weight, but it was forced and it was either that or die. So just leave it out.
